![]() ![]() I do like how Isaac inserts himself back into Mac's life and how they fall back into their friendship. it was just awful because he lost them both and I think he didn't realize how important Mac was to him until he didn't have that parental figure looking out for him anymore. I adore Isaac and I'm kind of really angry with Adele for taking mac's memories of him away because that was selfish and unfair of her, knowing Isaac isn't close with his own dad, knowing how close he and Mac had gotten. ![]() I don't want to believe it because I do genuinely like Nicco, but I just feel like that would be the greatest plot twist, that he was actually the worst of them all, that he was just using her to get to the comte.ĪNYWAYS. ![]() ![]() That whole story about how he strung Seraphine along for DECADES so he could get close enough to kill her? The way Gabe described his singular personality trait as PATIENT? The fact that he's been obsessed with finding Leon and Adele could be his ticket? I think he's playing the long con with her and waiting for Leon to show up or for Adele to lead him to his cousin. Speaking of which, I suddenly have a theory that Nicco IS going to betray her. Because, let's be honest, that's who she's wanted to pick from the start, and the only reason she went with Issac is because she thought Nicco betrayed her. I just can't with the love triangle anymore because it's dumb I feel like Adele is stringing Isaac along until she can justify picking Nicco at the end. I feel as though my interest in this series has been waning with each book. ![]() ![]() ![]() Later, Aru stepped up to fight the thief. ![]() And that someone is… Aru? It was most likely an illusion, because the real Aru was watching the “thief” fight a fake Aru. Eventually, they get close enough to the “thief” to see that she’s fighting someone. They have to get the golden bow and arrow back while fighting off hundreds of zombies. So, it’s sort of like a challenge in an obstacle course. There are zombies everywhere, supposedly being controlled by the thief. But they quickly learn that the one they suspect isn’t actually the thief. The book starts with Aru and her “sister,” Mini, hunting down the thief. Aru and her friends’ main goal is to retrieve Kamadeva’s bow and arrow. Hi! Do you like scavenger hunts? I know I do! The inciting event in X Lives of Wolverine #1 is very much in the vein of Days of Future Past, Age of Ultron, or any of the myriad Wolverine time travel stories that have been written over the years. ![]() This one reads like a decompressed storyline from the usual X-Force ongoing, complete with that book’s same creative team, writer Benjamin Percy and artist Joshua Cassara. If this first issue is any indication, it’s going to be the latter. Though grand in evocative concept and iconography, however, it remains to be seen if this new Wolverine-centric series will set a brand new course for the X-line, or just be a self-contained time travel romp centered around the X-Men’s safest (at least sales-wise) character. With this structure, one is immediately reminded of the grand genesis of Hickman’s run with House of X/Powers of X. This is a weekly series consisting of two alternating titles that are telling one big story. As part of this next era’s opening salvo, comes the twin series X Lives/X Deaths of Wolverine, beginning this week with X Lives of Wolverine #1. ![]() With the revelatory wrap-up of writer Jonathan Hickman’s run earlier this month in Inferno #4, the line seems to be adjusting accordingly, moving into a next era that so far looks a lot like the previous era but just more. It’s really astounding and moving in so many different ways.” When I came back into that world, I was confronted with the fact that there’s this beautiful version of my book coming out. “I spent the last few years not thinking about. It was all in there.” Whitehead was just as moved when he visited the set. “This is gold!” Jenkins exclaims of the novel’s rich details. Jenkins is effusive in his praise for Whitehead, who’s an executive producer on the series and who visited the Georgia set where his book’s world was made real. The Underground Railroad is an epic meeting of two artistic minds. There are striking departures from (and additions to) the novel, but Whitehead, whose next book, Harlem Shuffle, will be published later this year, seems to delight in a new reading of his work. It’s his version of a road movie, stretched across five states and 10 episodes ( it premieres on Amazon Prime May 14). Good YA tends to present a relatively limited setting extremely well, focusing on a small set of characters on the cusp of adulthood. Every few years, critics wonder anew whether young adult (YA) fiction, particularly science fiction, has become “too dark.” If such a cultural shift actually happened, it was long before I learned to read, but there is something alluring about YA dystopias that persists even after one is beyond the age of perpetual angst. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sara enjoys a luxurious existence until she learns that her father has passed away.
